Ole Wanscher designed the classic OW449 Colonial Coffee Table in 1964, thereby creating a timeless and harmonious focal point for the entire Colonial Series.
Ole Wanscher was integral to the aesthetic and functionality of modern Danish design. Having studied under Kaare Klint, he helped shape Danish furniture design as a designer and as an educator when he took over Klint’s professorship at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Wanscher’s classic and contemporary designs made him popular. In 1958, the Danish newspaper Politiken wrote: “Owning a Wanscher chair is an adventure every day, and will be so even several hundred years from now, for this is how long it lasts”.

The OW449 Colonial Coffee Table was designed by Ole Wanscher and clearly communicates his desire to lend modern style and clever utility to classic objects. The square veneer tabletop and framing design reflect that of the other furniture in the Colonial Series with precise detailing, raised corners, and a geometric aesthetic. The understated, carefully thought-through shape of the table enhances contemporary settings with an elegant simplicity. The Colonial Coffee Table is available in walnut or oak, and the latter is also available in a black-painted version. Apart from the OW449 Colonial Coffee Table, the Colonial Series also includes the OW149 Colonial Chair, the OW149-2 Colonial Sofa and the OW149F Colonial Footstool.
