Carl Hansen & Søn is reintroducing Frits Henningsen’s remarkable Coupé Sofa. Designed in 1936, the elegant Coupé Sofa merges an exceptional understanding of materials with a personal expression and a unique sense of proportions.
Presented for the first time at the 1936 Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Furniture Exhibition, the Coupé Sofa is one of the most original works from the hands of Frits Henningsen. Renowned as an exceptional designer with an exuberant personality, Henningsen considered craftsmanship and quality to be of the utmost importance. Those two factors also form the basis for the Coupé Sofa that is now added to the Carl Hansen & Søn family of design classics.
With its shoulder-height profile, angled rear legs and elegant inner armrests, the Coupé Sofa merges an exceptional understanding of materials with a unique sense of proportions, a simple shape and a high level of comfort.
Crafted with exquisite materials and a demanding upholstery technique, it has an elegantly understated exterior, which will work with both contemporary and classic furniture and spaces.
The Coupé Sofa is recreated according to careful measurements of the original piece and manufactured with the same precise craftsmanship. It is crafted in oak or walnut in various finishes and comes with either leather or fabric upholstery. Underneath the refined exterior lies a solid beech wood frame with foam padding and pocket springs for optimum sitting comfort.
The Coupé Sofa is available in stores from May 2019.
